Programme-wise Admission Overview

B.Tech Programs: Candidates must have completed 12th grade or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects. Applicants must qualify the JEE Main examination and secure a valid all-India rank. Admission is merit-based through the JoSAA counselling process. General Category candidates typically require ranks within the top 15,000-25,000 nationally, varying by specialization and category reservations.

M.Tech Programs: A Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology or a Master's degree in Science from a recognized institution is required. Candidates must qualify the GATE examination in a relevant engineering stream with a valid All India Rank. Selection is based on GATE score, written test performance, and interview conducted by IIT Madras.

M.Sc and MBA Programs: M.Sc candidates require a Bachelor's degree in Science; M.Sc admissions proceed through GATE or direct admission pathways. MBA aspirants must hold a Bachelor's degree from a recognized university and qualify the CAT examination, followed by written test and interview rounds for final selection.

IIT Madras Launches India's First On-Campus Quantum Computing Research Centre

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras inaugurated the National Quantum Computing Research Centre (NQCRC) on its Chennai campus in a ceremony attended by officials from the Department of Science and Technology and representatives from IBM India. The centre, funded under the National Quantum Mission with an initial outlay of ₹170 crore over five years, will focus on developing indigenous quantum hardware, quantum algorithms, and cryptography solutions tailored for Indian defence and financial sector applications.The facility is equipped with a dilution refrigerator capable of operating at temperatures near absolute zero and will collaborate closely with IIT Madras's existing Departments of Physics and Electrical Engineering.
