IIT Roorkee Launches M.Tech Program in Quantum Computing and Information Science

The Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee has announced the launch of a new M.Tech program in Quantum Computing and Information Science, set to admit its first cohort from the academic year 2026-27. The program, developed jointly by the Department of Physics and the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, will offer 20 seats and focus on quantum algorithms, error correction, and hardware design.

Programme-wise Admission Overview

B.Tech (Undergraduate): Candidates must have passed 10+2 examination with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as core subjects, followed by qualifying JEE Main and JEE Advanced. Only candidates who rank within the specified cut-off in JEE Advanced are eligible for admission to B.Tech programmes at IIT Roorkee.

M.Tech (Postgraduate): Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science with a minimum aggregate score (typically 60% or equivalent CGPA) is required. Admission is primarily through GATE scores in relevant specializations. IIT Roorkee also conducts its own entrance examination for candidates not qualifying GATE.

MBA & M.Sc: Bachelor's degree in any discipline with a minimum aggregate score is the basic requirement. MBA admission requires CAT or GMAT scores or qualifying IIT Roorkee's own entrance examination. M.Sc programmes require a relevant Bachelor's degree and qualifying through departmental entrance tests or national-level examinations.

The Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee concluded its Phase 1 campus placement drive for the 2025-26 batch with record-breaking results, reporting an average package of ₹28.4 LPA - the highest in the institute's history.
