NIT Calicut Launches M.Tech Programme in AI and Data Engineering from 2026-27

National Institute of Technology Calicut has received approval from the Senate and the Board of Governors to introduce a new M.Tech specialisation in Artificial Intelligence and Data Engineering starting from the academic year 2026-27. The programme, housed under the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, will admit 18 students in its inaugural batch through CCMT counselling.

Programme-wise Admission Overview

B.Tech: Candidates must have passed Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as core subjects from a recognized board with a minimum of 75% aggregate (70% for SC/ST candidates). Admission is based on JEE Main scores followed by JOSAA/CSAB counselling. Candidates must appear for JEE Main examination in the year of admission or the preceding year.

M.Tech: Candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology or an equivalent qualification with a minimum of 50% aggregate (45% for SC/ST candidates). Admission is through GATE examination followed by COAP/CCMT counselling. Valid GATE score in relevant stream is mandatory.

M.Sc: Bachelor's degree in the relevant science discipline with a minimum of 50% aggregate. Admission may be based on merit or entrance examination as per institute guidelines.

MBA: Bachelor's degree from a recognized university with minimum 50% marks. Valid GMAT or CAT score and academic/professional merit are considered during selection.

Application Process

• 1 Register and fill the application form on the official admission portal or through JEE Main (for B.Tech) and GATE (for M.Tech) websites.
• 2 Appear for the qualifying entrance examination: JEE Main for B.Tech, GATE for M.Tech, or other designated exams for M.Sc and MBA programmes.
• 3 Check your score and register on the joint admission portal if shortlisted based on merit.
• 4 Participate in the online counselling process and choose NIT Calicut along with preferred branch/specialization during seat allocation rounds.
• 5 Verify your allotted seat and complete document verification at the institute during the specified reporting dates.
• 6 Pay the tuition fees and complete the hostel/accommodation registration as applicable.
• 7 Complete your online registration on the institute's student portal and report for orientation and induction programme.

National Institute of Technology Calicut concluded its 2025-26 campus placement season on a high note, recording a placement offer rate of over 95% for eligible final-year students across engineering disciplines.
