Tezpur University is a Central University established by an Act of Parliament in 1994, located at Napaam, about 15 km east of Tezpur town in the Sonitpur district of Assam. Inaugurated under the chairmanship of then Prime Minister P. V. Narasimha Rao, it was set up as a fully residential, non-affiliating teaching and research university tasked with advancing higher education and human-resource development across the North-East region and the nation.
