UCEED 2026 - Overview

Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design (UCEED) is a national-level entrance examination conducted by IIT Bombay for admission to Design programmes across India. The exam is conducted in online mode with a duration of 3 hours for a total of 300 marks . UCEED is held once a year. Currently, 6+ colleges in India accept UCEED scores for admission.

UCEED 2026 Eligibility Criteria

Understanding the eligibility criteria is the first step towards preparing for Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design (UCEED). The exam is conducted by IIT Bombay at the national level for candidates seeking admission to Design programmes across India. UCEED Counselling Process

UCEED counselling and seat allotment for B.Des programmes is conducted centrally by IIT Bombay (the organizing institute) through the official UCEED portal at uceed.iitb.ac.in. It is entirely separate from JoSAA and is not linked to JEE Advanced or JEE Main counselling.

Important: UCEED does not use JoSAA, MCC, or CSAB portals. All communications - results, allotment letters, fee receipts - are through the UCEED portal only. Candidates are advised to regularly check uceed.iitb.ac.in and their registered email during the counselling period.

• Result Declaration & Score Card Download: UCEED 2025 results are declared on the official portal. Qualified candidates must download their scorecards and note their All India Rank (AIR). Candidates must clear both Part A and Part B cutoffs independently to be eligible for admission.
• Online Registration for Counselling: Eligible candidates register on the UCEED counselling portal within the notified window (typically March-April). Registration requires payment of a non-refundable registration fee (approximately ₹2,000 for General/OBC; ₹1,000 for SC/ST/PwD). Foreign nationals apply separately through DASA.
• Choice Filling and Locking: Candidates fill and lock their preferred B.Des programmes across participating institutes in order of preference. Participating institutes for UCEED 2024-25 include: IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Jodhpur, and IIITDM Jabalpur. Seats are categorized by category (General, EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, ST) and PwD sub-quota.
• Seat Allotment Rounds: IIT Bombay conducts multiple rounds of seat allotment (typically 3-4 rounds). Allotment is based on AIR, category, and choices filled. After each round, candidates must log in to either accept & freeze, accept & upgrade (remain in pool for better choice), or withdraw.
• Acceptance Fee Payment: Allotted candidates must pay the acceptance/seat booking fee online within 2-3 days of each allotment round to secure the seat. Failure to pay forfeits the allotment. The fee (approximately ₹10,000-₹20,000 depending on institute) is adjusted against the first-semester tuition fee.
• Document Verification: Candidates report to their allotted institute (or complete online verification as per institute norms) with originals and self-attested copies of: Class 10 and 12 mark sheets and certificates, UCEED 2025 scorecard and admit card, category certificate (if applicable), PwD certificate, valid photo ID, and recent passport-size photographs.
• Reporting and Admission: After document verification, candidates complete the remaining fee payment (first-semester fees) and formally report to the institute by the notified date to confirm admission. Failure to report results in automatic seat cancellation and the seat is offered in subsequent rounds or through spot allotment if conducted.

UCEED Exam Pattern

UCEED (Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design) is conducted by IIT Bombay in online (computer-based) mode. The examination is divided into two parts: Part A (computer-based, 180 minutes, 300 marks) and Part B (sketching/drawing test, 60 minutes, 60 marks). Part A is used for merit ranking; Part B is qualifying in nature and evaluated only for candidates who clear the Part A cutoff.

UCEED 2026 Cutoff Scores

UCEED cutoff is the minimum score required by candidates to qualify the examination and become eligible for the next stage of admission. The cutoff is determined by IIT Bombay based on factors like total number of candidates, difficulty level of the paper, and availability of seats. The exam is conducted for a total of 300 marks. Candidates from reserved categories (SC/ST/OBC/PwD) generally have lower cutoff scores compared to the General category.

Part A - Section-wise Breakdown

Negative Marking Rules

• Negative marking applies only to Section 3 (MCQ): −1 mark for each incorrect response.
• Section 1 (NAT) and Section 2 (MSQ) carry no negative marking.
• For MSQ, if any correct option is missed or any wrong option is selected, no marks are awarded - but no marks are deducted either.
• Unattempted questions attract zero marks across all sections.

Subjects Tested

Part B requires candidates to produce hand-drawn sketches on paper provided at the exam centre. It tests raw design ability, imagination, and sketching skill. Scores from Part A alone determine the UCEED merit rank list; Part B is a qualifying threshold.

Analyse your errors after each mock - most students lose marks in MSQ questions by selecting partially correct options, which attract negative marking.

Part B Drawing Strategy
