WBJEE 2026 Eligibility Criteria

Post-result counselling for WBJEE 2025 is managed by the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board (WBJEEB) itself through its official centralised counselling portal. The process covers admissions to engineering and technology programmes at government, government-aided, and self-financing colleges in West Bengal, as well as Jadavpur University and participating private universities.

Note: Candidates who also qualify in JEE Main can participate in JoSAA counselling for NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs simultaneously, but must manage deadlines carefully as WBJEE and JoSAA counselling timelines often overlap in June-July.

• Result and Rank Publication: WBJEEB publishes the merit list (category-wise: General, SC, ST, OBC-A, OBC-B) on its official website. Candidates must note their WBJEE rank and category rank carefully.
• Counselling Registration: Eligible candidates register on the WBJEEB counselling portal using their WBJEE application number, date of birth, and registered mobile/email. A non-refundable counselling registration fee (approximately ₹500 for General, ₹400 for reserved categories) is paid online during this step.
• Document Upload and Verification: Candidates upload scanned copies of required documents - Class 10 marksheet (date of birth proof), Class 12 marksheet, WBJEE rank card, category certificate (if applicable), domicile certificate, and a recent passport-size photograph.
• Choice Filling and Locking: Candidates log into the portal to fill and arrange their preferred institute-branch combinations in order of priority. The board typically allows 2-3 days for this. After finalising, candidates must lock their choices - unlocked choices are automatically locked at the deadline.
• Seat Allotment Rounds: WBJEEB conducts multiple allotment rounds (generally 3-4 rounds). Allotment is based on WBJEE rank, category, and choice order. Results for each round are published on the portal.
• Seat Acceptance and Fee Payment: Allotted candidates must pay the seat acceptance fee (partial tuition fee, approximately ₹5,000-₹10,000 depending on institute type) online within the stipulated window to hold the seat. Failure to pay forfeits the allotted seat.
• Upgradation Option: Candidates who accept a seat can opt to participate in subsequent rounds for a better preference, or freeze their current allotment. Upgrading in the next round is automatic based on choices already locked.
• Physical Reporting and Document Verification: After the final allotment, candidates must report to their allotted institute within the prescribed dates, carrying original documents and their allotment letter. The institute verifies originals and collects the remaining admission fee.

Know the Syllabus and Exam Pattern

WBJEE tests Mathematics (Paper 1, 100 marks) and Physics + Chemistry (Paper 2, 100 marks). Each paper has three categories of MCQs with different marking schemes - Category 1 (1 mark, −¼ penalty), Category 2 (2 marks, −½ penalty), and Category 3 (2 marks, no negative marking). Each paper uses three question categories with different marking schemes:

• Category 1 (Single Correct MCQ): +1 mark for correct answer, −¼ (−0.25) for wrong answer. Mathematics has 50 such questions; Physics and Chemistry have 30 each.
• Category 2 (Single Correct MCQ - Higher Weightage): +2 marks for correct answer, −½ (−0.5) for wrong answer. Mathematics has 15 such questions; Physics and Chemistry have 5 each.
